Stress and How Hypnotherapy Can Help

Stress is an emotional and physiological response to specific situations that you perceive as threatening or very challenging. Anxiety is a condition where you experience high levels of worry, unease, or fear without any obvious, specific situational causes known.

When you sense a situation or event is dangerous, your subconscious triggers a biological response called the fight or flight response. This response increases your breathing and heart rates, sends energy to your muscles, and raises your level of conscious awareness which enables you to better focus on the immediate danger.

This first stage of stress is known as the alarm – reaction stage. Usually it dissipates and you return to normal when the immediate threat or challenge passes. However, if you experience a long term stressful situation, your body begins to adapt. You enter the resistance stage of stress which is characterized by symptoms such as irritability, frustration, and poor concentration. Frequent, long-term episodes of stress may lead to the third stage, a state of chronic stress. Chronic stress is often accompanied by chronic anxiety.  Chronic stress and anxiety can bring long-term harm to our physical, mental and emotional health.

To avoid the harmful consequences that prolonged, repeated episodes of stress or chronic anxiety can cause, it is important and valuable to learn how to lower your stress levels and avoid chronic anxiety when possible. Hypnotherapy can help you to relax and relieve stress as it occurs.
