Overcoming Pessimism with A Lemonade Sunset

To say the day was not going as planned was an understatement.  We had gone to Oxnard to meet a repairman.  He gave a window of between 12 and 2.  We arrived at 11:30 so that we would not miss him.  At 2:00 pm I called the dispatcher to see when he might be coming.  He finally arrived at 2:30. A repair that I had hoped would be a couple of hundred dollars turned into replacing the equipment for thousands of dollars. 

I could have gone to a very negative place and catastrophized but I decided to make the most of what was left of my day.  I was starving, having missed lunch waiting for the repairman, so decided to take myself to a favorite spot at the harbor.  Good food and a good view went far to cheer my spirits.  We then decided to go for a walk on the beach and by then it was almost time for the sun to go down.  We waited a few minutes and then saw this spectacular sunset. 

This is a good example of “making lemonade out of lemons.”  Life is going to hand you problems – you get to choose how you want to deal with them.  I chose to salvage what was left of my day and enjoy the beauty around me that I don’t usually get to see.
